Trade/Compliance

Classify your first product

Look up an HS code and attach it to a product.

Classify a product

  1. 1

Open the EXIM Trade step of the product form

When you create or edit a product, the second step — "EXIM Trade" — asks for the HSN code, country of origin, and unit of measure. All three are required before you can save.
  2. 2

Search by description or by code

Type what the product is (e.g. "coffee", "cotton yarn") or the code itself if you already know it. Results come back as you type, each showing its full chapter → heading → subheading path so you can confirm you picked the right leaf.
  3. 3

Select the 8-digit HSN tariff line

Pick the line that matches your product exactly. A product carries exactly one HS code at a time — selecting a new one always replaces the current one, it never adds a second.
  4. 4

    Save the product

Once saved, the code is attached to the product record and travels with it into quotations, orders and any job line item created from it.

Some codes trigger extra compliance automatically

A handful of HS chapters and prefixes — dual-use electronics, chemicals, radioactive materials, arms components and a few others — are flagged as export-controlled (SCOMET) or otherwise restricted. If a job is built from a line carrying one of these codes, the checklist engines add the relevant license or declaration step automatically. You don't classify SCOMET status yourself; the platform reads it off the code.

This guide covers attaching a code to a product. For the chapter/heading/subheading hierarchy, how HSN differs from SAC (services), and exactly how classification feeds duty, RoDTEP and export-control rules on a job, see the HS Code Lookup & Compliance doc.
