Email Campaigns
Templates, sending, deliverability and tracking for email campaigns.
What it is
An email campaign is a sequence of one or more emails sent to one or more audience lists, from a sender you connect once and reuse. It is a distinct model from the marketing Campaign container — an email campaign has its own audience, sender, schedule and per-recipient tracking.
Templates
A template can be authored visually in the block builder — its source is stored as MJML and compiled into the HTML that actually gets sent — or as a legacy HTML/text template with no automatic conversion between the two. Editing a block-authored template checks an optimistic revision number, so two people (or two tabs) editing the same template at once don't silently overwrite each other.
Enrollment modes
Lists and campaigns are different facts
A lead leaving a list does not unenroll them from a campaign either way — list membership and campaign enrolment are tracked separately, so cutting off email 4 because a lead left a list is a decision nobody made automatically. The sequence
Each step in the sequence builder is one email: a template, and a wait time before it sends. Waits accumulate from the previous step — a 3-day wait on step 2 and a 7-day wait on step 3 lands step 3 on day 10, not day 7. Turning a step off never pulls later steps forward, since the resolved send day accounts for every step, enabled or not.
- 1
Draft / Paused
The sequence can be freely restructured — add, reorder or delete emails. - 2
Scheduled / Running
The campaign is live. Send timing for enrolled people is already materialised, so the API refuses structural edits — pause first if you need to change the sequence. - 3
Completed / Failed
Derived by the send queue, not set by the UI, so the dashboard and detail page never disagree about which one applies. - 4
Archived
A filing decision, reversible by reviving the campaign — not a failure state.
Sending and tracking
You can send immediately or schedule a future start date and time. Once emails go out, the campaign reports sent, delivered, opened, clicked, bounced, complaint and unsubscribed counts.
Zero is not the same as unknown
Open and click tracking is pixel-based everywhere it exists, so treat an open rate as approximate, never a headline number. Delivery counts are separately flagged when receipts are expected but none have arrived yet — that is a setup problem to check, not proof the send failed.Related
